Improving the Thermal Efficiency of a Conservatory

Our client owned and occupied a 1970s chalet-style 2-storey detached house in the heart of a picturesque Surrey village.  The property included a detached garage and a 1980s conservatory, which was thermally inefficient.

What our client wanted…

The client was fed up of the conservatory being very cold in winter and roasting hot in summer and came to us to find a solution to make the structure more thermally efficient.  They also wanted to create a Boot Room within the space as they were avid gardeners.

How we helped…

The Grillo Team carried out a measured survey and produced accurate existing plans of the space.  These were then used to create a suitable improved design and, once approved by the client, a Planning Application was prepared and submitted.  We supported our client throughout the planning process and in drawing up a contract for the works. We then monitored the construction work to ensure it complied with the original specification, Building Regulations and contract and liaised with contractors on our client’s behalf.

The end result…

The resulting development transformed the conservatory into a modern extension with a traditional tiled roof, roof light windows for rapid ventilation and bi-fold doors on two sides to create a Veranda effect.  The construction methods used, along with the new design, ensured the room was more energy efficient and the space no longer experienced significant seasonal temperature swings.

What our client thought…

Following a recommendation, we commissioned Grillo LLP to rebuild a structurally unsound and unused conservatory as an extension to the house. Their surveyors were responsible for all stages of this project; from survey, plans, permissions and specification through to building completion. After nine months use, we are still delighted with the new garden room and can unreservedly recommend Grillo for this sort of project. We have found their staff a pleasure to work with; business-like and always courteous.”
